Nectar 1 from New Vraja Dhama
|
For the first time in the past six years devotees fear that the Temple is now under the serious threat of being closed and sold due to the politics surrounding this year’s Ratha Yatra festival. Clearly this has rocked the boat. We have now entered an era of insecurity and financial instability if devotees do not rise to the challenge to reverse this unfortunate trend. We had a period of exceptional stability, which has never been seen before in this yatra. No one had to worry that the mortgage and bills could not be paid. However, this has now changed. Moreover, we have managed to pay off a substantial amount of our mortgage, namely £6,600 altogether. This reduced the overall lending period to less than eight years. However, the time of prosperity has now come to an end if not all devotees rise to the challenge of becoming a Member and thus make up the monthly shortfall of £400. In this way everyone can help by contributing on a monthly basis and at the same time find others to join the Membership Program. The program has been established six years ago. We have now 24 Members who regularly contribute to keep the temple open for all. The full list of Members can be seen on the Temple’s Membership Board or by clicking on this link.

The income from the Membership Program is covering just over half of our monthly mortgage, which is £635.00. The Program is based on a Standing Order Scheme through which devotees contribute at present between £5 and £50 on a monthly basis. A Gold, Silver and Bronze Membership will be introduced shortly.
The contributions are tax refundable through the government’s new Gift Aid
Scheme, which will give the Temple an additional income at the end of the tax year.
Standing Order Forms are available at the Temple or by
clicking on this link. From here you can print it out. In a last minute effort to remedy this financial crisis we are in the process of establishing a Financial Committee, which has as its prime target to raise the additional funds and thus keep the Temple open for all. Please get in touch with us if you are interested to sit on this committee. We need your ideas and your input more than ever before if we want to secure the Temple’s future in Leicester. If all fails devotees may not be able to avoid charging a fee for each plate of prasadam in a similar way to the Manchester Temple, in order to raise some additional funds. Devotees in Chowpatty, Mumbai run a similar scheme. They charge for prasadam but give out free tickets to those who come early and attend the full program. |
